As part of the 150th Birth Anniversary Celebrations of Swami Vivekananda, Sri Ramakrishna Math, Chennai has released a movie on Swam Vivekananda in DVD on Jan 12, 2012, observed officially as the 'National Youth Day' across India (that day is birthday of Swami Vivekananda as per English Calendar).

The Film is based on the autobiographical writings of Swami Vivekananda, the illustrious monk of India (19th century).
'Vivekananda by Vivekananda'' begins with the young Swami swimming across the turbulent Indian Ocean, climbing the rock in the middle of the Ocean to meditate. In solitude, he realizes life's mission – ‘upliftment’ of the masses of India. Thereupon, begins one of the most adventurous journeys in Indian history.
In 1893, to garner support for this mission, he decides to participate in the World Parliament of Religions in Chicago. His legendary speeches are among the many events of his life that the film tries to recreate in the first half. But success instead of giving him restful sleep makes him more motivated and determined to help his countrymen. On one such nights, troubled by the conditions of his fellow countrymen, Swamiji starts reminiscing about his childhood, his youth, poverty at home, his first meeting with his spiritual teacher and mystic Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa in Culcutta, his constant disagreements with his master, his master’s Maha samadhi, establishment of the Math (ashrama), his days as a wandering monk in India and finally journey to America …
Swami Vivekananda works tirelessly preaching in India on Vedanta, Indian culture and its priceless heritage and towards establishing the Ramakrishna Mission and empowering young men to carry forward the teachings of Sri Ramakrishna.
The Film is an attempt to recreate the life and times of one of the greatest visionaries in this world, through his own words.
