Swami Vivekananda’s 150th Birth Anniversary – 2013-14

The year Jan 2013 to Jan 2014 is a historic year as the 150th Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda falls during the period.

All the Ramakrishna Math and Mission Centers in India & abroad and many other philanthropic organizations & Governments are conducting various activities & celebrating the event in a befitting manner.

Sri Ramakrishna Math, Chennai, has taken up many activities on this historic occasion, listed below are some of the activities:

1. To renovate and refurbish Vivekanandar Illam and dedicate it as a Vivekananda Cultural Centre.
2. Publish highly subsidized books worth more than ` 1.00 crore on the life and teachings of Swami Vivekananda,and distribute these books throughout Tamil Nadu.
3. The backward village of Meyyur in Tiruvallur District,about 70 Km. from Chennai, is to be made into a model village according to the ideas of Swamiji.
4. Hold special Camps for Teachers, Students, Doctors and spread the message of Swami Vivekananda among these groups.
5. Our Math is already carrying out 4 important Rural development Programmes. They are:

• Tuition Centres for poor students
• Computer Centres for poor students
• Nursing Assistant Training Course for poor village girls
• ‘Viveka Murasu’ that spreads Swami Vivekananda’s message to every village

Introducing Exhibition on Swami Vivekananda in Vivekananda House:

Vivekanandar Illam (Vivekananda House) is a building of global importance, as it was sanctified by Swami Vivekananda’s stay between 6 -14 Feb 1897, immediately after his triumphant return from the West.

Swami Vivekananda has been recognized as one of the main moulders of the modern India and one of the prominent few spiritual leaders of the modern world.

On the occasion of Swami Vivekananda’s 150th Birth Anniversary we are making Vivekananda House a Centre, radiating Swamiji’s ideas & ideals, his rousing, inspiring, man-making, and character-building message through a multifaceted exhibition termed ‘Experience Vivekananda’ on the following themes.

1. Indian Culture in the eyes of Vivekananda

3. Vivekananda, the Man and his Message
