     As you may be aware, Government of India has declared 12^th January, the birthday of Swami Vivekananda, as National Youth Day. On this occasion, Sri Ramakrishna Vijayam, the Tamil monthly magazine of Sri Ramakrishna Math, Chennai is conducting Youth Day Competitions every year. This programme is quite popular with the students all over Tamil Nadu. 

     The student community today is facing grave crisis in the form of growing deterioration of values. As a responsible citizen, I am sure you will also be concerned about this looming disaster. The appropriate way of correcting this drift is to instill noble ideas in student’s mind at a young age by introducing the life and message of great souls of India. 

     With this objective in mind we have been conducting Youth Day Competition every year for the last 8 years on various topics. This year the competition will be on the based on the books prescribed by us. These books on the life and teachings of Swami Vivekananda will be issued free of cost to all the participating students. There is a nominal registration fee of Rs.5 and Rs.10 for school and college students respectively. About 100000 students are expected to participate in these competitions and the approximate cost involved in conducting these competitions is Rs.15 lakhs / $ 32,037 USD. 

     We request you to donate liberally and be a partner in this noble cause of spreading the message of Swami Vivekananda amongst the student community of Tamilnadu. Donations may be made in favour of “Sri Ramakrishna Math, Chennai” and sent to our above mentioned address.   Donations are eligible for tax exemption under Section 80(G) of the Indian Income Tax Act.

           Sub: 150th Birth Anniversary Celebration of Swami Vivekananda – Books Subsidy Scheme - Request for donation

           Trust this finds you well.          

        Born in Calcutta on January 12, 1863, Swami Vivekananda was the chief disciple of Sri Ramakrishna. He was a marvellous blend of all excellences. Eager to know if God is true and perceptible, he was guided to Sri Ramakrishna who assured him from his personal realization that God is the only Reality and can be communed with. Questioning the Master at every step and accepting nothing without rigorous proof, he was able to be in tune with the Infinite. After the Master's passing away he took upon himself the great mission of propagating the truth of oneness, the universality of being, the harmony of religions, and the glory of the Atman. He put India on the spiritual map of the world by his famous addresses at the Parliment of Religions held in Chicago in 1893.

         He made Vedanta popular in the West, and in India he established the twin organizations, the Ramakrishna Math and the Ramakrishna Mission, in 1897, to train those who had renounced the world in search of God and to integrate the activities of individuals who chose to serve fellow men and women unselfishly. His brilliant speeches and writings constitute a rich legacy for all who care for the higher values of life.

      The 150th Birth Anniversary of this great soul will be celebrated in a befitting manner. The Ramakrishna Math, Chennai, has planned to celebrate this historic occasion through several schemes, one of which is the Books subsidy scheme.

         Under this scheme, it is proposed to print several million copies of the books depicting the life and teachings of Sri Ramakrishna, Sri Sarada Devi and Swami Vivekananda in Tamil and English. We propose to make available the important titles of Swami Vivekananda at half the original price, without compromising the quality, so that they will reach the all the sections of our society.

        We request you to donate liberally and to be a partner in the noble cause of spreading the eternal values of Swami Vivekananda. Donations can be made in favor of Ramakrishna Math Publications, Chennai. Donors contributing the entire amount for a title as given below will have their names printed in all subsidized copies of that title.

            Sub: Sri Ramakrishna Math National School, Mint, Chennai-79 - Repairs - Request for donation

            Trust this finds you well.

           Sri Ramakrishna Math National School, Mint, Chennai-79, a Primary School with classes up to V Standard, was founded in the year 1906 by Swami Ramakrishnanandaji, a direct disciple of Bhagavan Sri Ramakrishna, who also established our Chennai Mylapore Math. The School was founded basically to cater to the needs of the poor and downtrodden girls residing in and around the Mint Area. Swami Vivekananda always emphasized the need for educating girls to make them independent and self-reliant. Presently the School has strength of 505 students, about 95% of them are below poverty line. The School is very popular among the locals. No fees are charged to the students. Notebooks, uniforms and mid-day meals are provided free of cost.

         The building housing this 103 year old institution having classes up to the primary level (5th Standard), is in urgent need of repairs. Immediate repairs are required to be carried out in the Toilets, Plumbing, Electrical installations, infrastructure facilities and in the Lunch room and Kitchen of the Childrens's Creche.

       The total estimated cost of the repair work to be carried is Rs.13.00 lacs. We request you to kindly join hands with the Math in this noble venture of extending education to poor girl students. We shall be glad to provide you any further information that you may require with regard to the repairs to be carried out.
