Dispensary

Sri Ramakrishna Math started its Charitable Dispensary in 1925 to render service to the poor and helpless patients in and around the locality. The late Dr. B. Raghavendra Rao, a retired Civil Surgeon, placed his voluntary services at the disposal of the institution and undertook to meet the entire recurring expenditure of the work. The devoted and self-sacrificing services of  eminent doctors and volunteers have enabled this Dispensary to grow into a very useful center of medical relief and diagnostic centre in the heart of Chennai. During its first year the total number of patients treated was only 970, whereas in the year 2009-2010 the number was more than 2 lakh.

About 30 Doctors render their services purely as a labor of love. A monastic member looks after the day to day administration of the Dispensary. He is assisted by a band of dedicated staff and volunteers. Their Self-sacrificing service is helping its smooth function. On an average, 700 patients per day avail the medical facilities here.

Most of the medicines are given free of cost. Stock mixtures, tablets, lotions, ointments, syrups etc. come under this category. However, pricier medicines like tonics, antibiotics, drugs, multivitamin drops for children injections etc are given at a very nominal charge.

We have the following Departments:

General, Eye, Dental, Pediatrics, Diabetology, Dermatology, Gyneacology, Thyroid, Orthopaedic, Homeopathy, Cardiology and Physiotheraphy.

Investigations:

Laboratory, Scan, Digital X-ray, ECG, Endoscopy and Colonoscopy.

8.00 am to 11.30 & 2.30 pm to 5.00 pm
