Vivekananda Cultural Centre

It is culture of the heart that we want…it is the culture of the heart, really, and not that of the intellect that will lessen the misery of the world…It is culture that withstands shocks, not a simple mass of knowledge. You can put a mass of knowledge into the world, but that will not do it much good. There must come culture into the blood,’ said Swami Vivekananda.

Swami Vivekananda pointed out that true national development is possible only when native culture is strong and vibrant. He declared: ‘A nation that has no history of its own has nothing in this world.

Swami Vivekananda wanted every Indian to be proud of his or her heritage and study and assimilate the values in Indian culture, be proud of the cultural legacy, and then strive for further enrichment. He was convinced that a dynamic future with all-round excellence, both at individual and collective levels, can be built only through assimilating and enhancing the core cultural values that India has been nourishing all through her history.

Vivekananda Cultural Centre is being established as a befitting tribute to Swami Vivekananda during his 150th Birth Anniversary Celebrations – 2013-14. The Centre is coming up in the Vivekananda House (Vivekanandar Illam)  Campus on Marina Beach Road, Triplicane, Chennai.

The Centre shall promote study, research and practice of Indian cultural values in the light of Swami Vivekananda and provide training in achieving excellence in every sphere of Indian life.

The Centre shall also focus on socio-economic development of the economically weak and underprivileged sections of society.

The Centre shall function as an ‘Academy for Human Excellence to train the participants, through its multidimensional programmes, in achieving excellence through value assimilation and in adopting a healthy, holistic and culturally enriched lifestyle.

Vision: To transform individuals into enlightened citizens through inner enrichment and value enhancement.

Mission: To create healthy citizens for a healthy nation.
